DO NOT Update your NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet K1 to Android 6 Marshmallow
3 main problems with OTA update to Android 6:
1) Battery drain very very very fast, about 1% every few minutes.
2) Wi-Fi dropping constantly.
3) “Share” app adding a ticking sound to gameplay recordings
I contacted the NVIDIA support and all they can say that they are working on a new OTA for the SHIELD tablet K1 but they can’t tell the exact release date of the OTA
Support ticket created on 12/27/2015 still no update since then:
…
[02:04:26 AM]Support: I see that level 2 updated you in next OTA it should be fixed so you have to wait since our OTA in testing phase
[02:05:04 AM]Me: How much time it should take? Why you release OTA without testing it first?
[02:06:08 AM]Support: I am sorry about that I understand your concern but please wait as our concern team is working on this
[02:06:28 AM]ME: When you will release the OTA update? On the next week, month, year?
[02:08:18 AM]Support: I am not aware about the exact ETA date but it should be at the earliest since it is testing phase
A week later:
…
[01:39:07 PM]Support: Unfortunately we would not be having details regarding the next OTA release, you would receive a notification as soon as the OTA is live
[01:39:33 PM]Me: ok then how i can downgrade to Android 5?
[01:39:35 PM]Me: Can i use the SHIELD TABLET K1 recovey image from https://developer.nvidia.com/shield-open-source
and “apply update from SD card” via the “recovery mode”?
[01:39:47 PM]Me: or how i can do it?
[01:40:46 PM]Support: You may install the recovery image from developer zone, That would help you to get back to lollipop OS.
[01:41:00 PM]Support: Please check the steps from the link they will have the details
[01:41:20 PM]Me: Do you have any guide for that?
[01:43:04 PM]Support: Unfortunately no
